Honorable Department Commander William "Bill" Hudson passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2009 at 2:20 p.m. from lung cancer. Those who wish to pay their respects to this beloved husband, father, grandfather, friend and colleague may join others at:

About William "Bill" Hudson
Hudson held a long-serving career which included a tour of duty in the Army from 1959 to 1962 and one year as a M.P. in the Army Reserve.
The past Commander of Evergreen Park Post # 854 began his move through positions in the Great 8th District in 2001, completing all preceding chairs including 8th District Commander and First Division Commander. He attended Officers' Training School and graduated the American Legion Extension course; he served on the Internal Affairs Commission for the Department and on the National Distinguished Guest Committee.
Upon retirement from the Chicago Police Department after 32 years, he had spent a quarter-century - 25 of those years - in the K-9 Unit. He was also a SWAT team member.
Hudson held a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill.
Hudson is survived by his wife of 44 years, Darlene, who always gave him her full support, along with two daughters and two grandchildren, and a host of American Legion veterans and volunteers.
