Aug. 21: Acclaimed Artist Susan Olmetti Drawn Again To The Doorstep Of The Art World's Haven, New York's Chelsea Hotel

For Immediate Release

NEW YORK/EWORLDWIRE/Aug. 14, 2008 --- As art enthusiasts and LBGT community members slip into the Grand Ballroom to share a three-hour soiree starting at 6:00 p.m., they will gain exclusive entrance to the world of Susan Marie Olmetti, who sets paint to dance in a whirlwind of enlivened bold color that sweeps viewers into the kenetic revelry before them.

Through her eyes and her art, Olmetti's abstract creations embody the soul of an extraordinary talent who has held a lifelong struggle against the effects of bi-polar disorder. Over the last decade, Olmetti's abstract creations - which often glow like stained glass windows lit from behind, have captured the attention of Canada's Globe and Mail newspaper, and magazines such as Today's Chicago Woman; the fascination and attraction to her singular craft comes, in spite of her only having an eighth grade education.

Hunkering down on the sidewalks of Chicago or New York, Olmetti sits engrossed in breathing energy into the canvas before her, but she is never so oblivious to the churning of crowds around her that she can't respond to those who approach needing an ear, a hand or an expression of encouragement. Her empathy for others' plights is what can be considered a double-edged character flaw; her generosity is what extends her reach beyond her immediate social circle to the Joseph Michael Olmetti Memorial Fund for lung cancer research at the Rush University Medical Center - the lasting tribute established in her father's memory and to which she donates the proceeds of all her earnings. It is also her spunky openness that makes her susceptible to giving without expecting or receiving in-kind.

An outspoken advocate for children and adults with bi-polar disorder, Olmetti carries her experiences from her youth with her, and her vulnerability and her strength, allowing the inner turmoil welling up inside her spill over in intricate paintings for the public who might come to recognize her value and the value of others like her.

"Wherever it is, I have been there," said Olmetti. "I know what it's like - the pain, the anger, the disillusionment. I have battled adversity, and my being where I am now confirms I have won - I'm with God."
